| Civil War Day |
| PURPOSE: To learn about the Civil War through fun and hands-on activities. TYPICAL SCHEDULE: (Note: This is only a sample schedule and can be adjusted to meet the needs of a particular group.) 8:30am - Arrive, sign-in and purchase any last minute necessities for the day. 9:00am - Opening prayer and introductions. 9:15am - Overview of the Civil War and rules for the day. 11:00am - Training and drilling in appropriate camps or in the medic area. 12:00pm - Break for Civil War style lunch (Beans, bread and water). 12:30pm - Mock battles begin. 3:30pm - Snack, clean-up, hear the results of the day 4:00pm - Depart for home TYPICAL ATTIRE AND ACCESSORIES NEEDED: UNION SOLDIER - Dark blue jacket, pants and hat, black or brown shoes, single or double shot rifle or pistol, roll caps. OPTIONAL: Haversack, canteen and belt. CONFEDERATE SOLDIER - Gray or tan jacket, pants and hat, black or brown shoes, single or double shot rifle or pistol, roll caps. OPTIONAL: Haversack, canteen, and belt. NOTE: Floppy hats are also acceptable head wear for soldiers. Soldiers will be allowed only one weapon. Only officers will be allowed 4 or 8 shot pistols. NURSES - Long dress or skirt with blouse (preferably dark colored), apron, black or brown shoes, optional bonnet, mobcap or other head wear. Medical haversacks with bandages will be provided for use for the day. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN - Period clothing such as long skirts and dresses, petticoats or bloomers, bonnets or mobcaps, shawls, pants, work shirts, vests, black or brown shoes. Children must be age 6 and up to participate but younger siblings are welcome to observe with an adult. |
